Clever interface lowers cost for industrial QVGA TFT
18bit RGB input can drive any QVGA TFT system direct from industrial PC platform without the high cost of a larger more costly display.
Display makers GPEG have been busy working on some clever solutions to integrating low cost QVGA colour TFT (320x240xRGB), into industrial environments.
There are some good TFT solutions out there but many are challenging to integrate into an IPC environment due to the interface characteristics. We have developed with our partners a simple interface card that transforms 18-bit RGB data commonly found in the IPC world. We have added a very simple interface structure with TTL level control for things like image inversion and rotation, all powered from a single 12V DC rail.
The SFHX8817 matches low cost QVGA panels as a kit in a compact format only 110x80x10mm in depth, making mechanical integration simple for all applications.
Further developments for the basic structure of the interface can be applied to panels of 4.5", 6.5", 7" and 8.4" to create a comprehensive range of solutions.
Very high view angles, contrast ratio and brightness can be attained using this solution by migrating from older CSTN type display technology.
