These custom LCD designs are made by bonding the IC directly to the glass resulting in mechanical and cost savings made by the removal of PCBs, connectors and other components normally associated with the LCD display. This technique is most suited to higher volume production but can be found in segmented, character and graphic LCD displays alike.
